HOTSHOP: May 5

HOTSHOP is a ADV/PRO workshop series designed to aid individuals in reconnecting to their artistic voice and the joy of movement, through the exploration of Hot Crowd’s diverse repertoire and improvisation.

This 3-hour workshop iteration is inspired by our Season 7’s research of innate human traits. Artists will join us on the continuing journey of discovery into the true essence of connection and the raw human experience.

Dancers can look forward to company class, improvisational exploration, and company repertoire. Both HOTSHOPs  will include two different company classes by company members and two different S.7 repertoire personally instructed by the Directors and Assistant Director.

HOTSHOP 1 (May 5, 2pm-5pm): repertoire will explore group ensemble work and innovative partnering by Assistant Rehearsal Director, Lindsey Scouten. Participants are invited to deep dive into the research process that led to this work’s creation and get a first look before it makes its world premiere come May.

HOTSHOP 2 (June 22, 12pm-3pm): repertoire will explore the newest and final piece to our S.7 rep by Co-Director Brittany Latta McMahon. Inspired by Bell Hooks book “All About Love,” and her past and present relationships with family and friends, “Cathexis" delves into the intricate layers of human emotions, particularly focusing on the investment of feelings in the different types of love in our lives. Inspired by the concept of cathexis, where emotional energy is assigned to an object or individual, this piece aims to unravel the depths of both positive and sometimes toxic affection, attachment, and vulnerability that innately comes along with loving someone.

“Spending the week learning from Hot Crowd was such a special experience. Exploring deeper into the world of partner work and finding more expression in my dancing are skills I will use my whole life. Devon, Brittany, Kyra, and Lindsey were all so kind, thorough, and intelligent in their teaching. I felt so free dancing their movement style. Thank you, Hot Crowd, for this beautiful learning opportunity!”
